Kanelada has its origin from the island of Crete. Many years ago that there were no refreshments people were trying to find ways to create some, one of them is the famous Kanelada. Kanelada (cinnamon syrup) is really simple to make since it is syrup with a lot of cinnamon that they used to add snow from the mountain Psiloritis and drink it.
Ingredients for 1 litre of Kanelada
4 glasses of sugar
2 glasses of water
3 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons grounded cinnamon
1 teaspoon carnations
Preparation
In a big pot we put the carnations, the cinnamon sticks, the grounded cinnamon and the water and we let them boil in medium temperature. After they start boiling we add the sugar and we mix them really well. When our mixture starts to boil always in medium temperature we let it boil for 15 minutes until it becomes syrup and then we remove it from the stove. We let it get the room temperature and then we strain it in order to remove the spices. We can preserve it outside in a bottle, no fridge necessary. To serve it we will need for each person one big glass full of ice cubes we add syrup almost until the half of the glass is full and we mix it with a spoon and it is ready to drink. It is perfect for the hot summer days. Of course we can also serve it with hot water instead and it is good for the cold days of winter. Finally, we can also use it in confectionery if we want to substitute cinnamon and carnation.
